Raehan Razick, sophomore: “What I think should be done is the nation’s schools need to have extra security precautions. The schools need to know how to take action. I feel like there should be another safety action to take place in case of a shooting. Schools need to start forcing ID’s so that they know who enters, and who leaves. What happened in Texas was not ok. Many children and teachers were killed, and families were left traumatized. Our country did have the right reaction, they just didnt take the right action.”
Autumn Lewis, junior: “I think it was absolutely horrifying for one and I think that the majority of the media seems to be sticking up for the lives that were lost, except people that are extremely far right. Gun control would be a good way to prevent mass shootings. I just think a person of that age should not have a gun for any reason, I don’t care what it is.”
Mauricio Medina, junior: “I think something as bad as this should have never happened. Had we had more restrictions on gun safety laws. It’s kind of lackluster seeing as how not many people are doing enough to deal with this situation. I also believe that instead of blaming people in this situation we should instead focus on how to prevent this from happening again. Though I don’t relate to this personally, it’s scary to think about this situation. Honestly I don’t determine anything will change. But the best thing we can do is hope that things start to change.”
Thiri Thar, junior: “It’s honestly nothing new that has happened, school shootings are so common in America that people usually tend to not really react to them. However the lives of those who have lost their children will never be the same. I think our country is still mourning the loss of the children’s lives and while doing so, hopefully it’ll reach the attention of the people who could actually make a change. It’s still unfortunate to still live in a country where other laws and rules that seem unjust to a majority of people (anti-abortion laws) are more important than laws about gun control that are putting more people’s lives at risk. I think there should be more attention put into gun control laws so hopefully events like or similar to the Texas school shooting won’t be a thing or at least decrease in number.”
Kaja Pusara, sophomore: “I personally don’t know much about it but I know that it’s sickening to think someone would do such a thing. You have to be real messed up in the head to do something like that. So many children who had their lives ahead of them died that day and it pains me to say that it’s unlikely that’ll be the last school shooting this country has seen. The children who lost their lives as well as the families who suffered the worst kind of heartbreak will be in my prayers.”
