Nicki Minaj, rapper, singer, and songwriter, has just released her new album Pink Friday 2 after having to push it back twice. This album has been in the making for a couple years since her last in 2018 during her “hate train era.” The most viewed song out of the album is “Are You Gone Already” with 1.6 million views on YouTube. Many people are living up to the new album to be her best one yet, while others are criticizing her music for being old and outdated.

“It’s amazing!,” said Alesandra De Leon, sophomore. “It is one of the best albums I have ever heard.  I like it because I just really like her music,” said Alesandra De Leon, sophomore. “I think she has a great voice.”

Although people are criticizing her for the album she has come a long way throughout the years with multiple hits and millions of copies sold. She’s collabed with multiple artists throughout the years, such as Lil Wayne and Drake, who were featured in her recent album.

“I think it’s a really nice album,” said Azul Martinez, sophomore. “I feel like she’s really unique with herself, she doesn’t try to fit in. She tries to be different.”

This album is a sequel to her previous Pink Friday album from more than a decade ago. With this being a sequel, many critics say that the new album is primarily the “same” to the last. Pink Friday contains songs that show who Nicki Minaj is and her showing to the world who she is throughout her music. Pink Friday 2 are songs that express her worries and reflections on her life.

“I love it,” said De’shanti Gholson, sophomore. “She did a really good job, I could see how she is growing more in her music and I just love it so much.”

Nicki Minaj did not come from a good upbringing family, which influences her songs in her new album. “You Gone Already?” was dedicated to her father who recently died. Also, “Just The Memories” is a song that explains how she grew up as well as how she was looked down on and made fun of. So far the album has hit over 300,000 album units, as well as being No. 1 on iTunes album charts in the U.S.
