What are seniors expecting from prom this year?

What are seniors expecting from prom this year?

As prom season approaches, seniors are excited but also stressed about the annual dance. From dresses and suits, to dates, to pictures, to friend groups, prom brings much stress and anxiety. Most seniors are just now beginning to get things fully planned out, and prom is right around the corner.

Due to covid and other factors, prom and many other school dances have been canceled or postponed during class of 2024’s high school timeline. This has led to trouble finding good DJs and venues as past dances in recent years have been off and on causing a worrying factor for seniors as the dance approaches.

“I’m definitely nervous about the music and how the DJ is gonna be because the last few we’ve had have been really bad in my opinion,” said Azra Ogorinac, senior.

This year’s prom will be held on April 27th at Sam’s Pizzeria and the theme is Met Gala. The venue choice has caused a rise out of many seniors and led to many disappointed prom participants.

“If I could change anything about prom it would be the venue,” said Maddy Johnson, senior. “I know having it at Sam’s was a more economical choice, but getting to hear about all the other years’ venues their prom was held at compared to this years is just a bit of a let down.”

Sam’s Pizzeria, although large, may not fit all the expected seniors and their dates. With that many people, issues arise with heat and getting uncomfortable during the dance.

“I hope there’s actually room to dance, unlike a lot of dances we’ve had in the past,” said Ogorinac. “Also hoping there’s good air conditioning.”

The amount of people in the building seems to be a worry. Many will be wearing long-sleeved suits and long heavy dresses, which is much different from the homecoming tradition of wearing short dresses.

“The only thing I’m nervous about is wearing a long, heavy dress for the whole night,” said Habiba Kamel, senior.

All in all, most stressed-out seniors are very excited about prom and spending the night with their class.

“I am excited for prom this year as it is one of the last major events with all my friends before we graduate,” said Nia Hodges, senior.

The expectations for prom are mainly positive and most are expecting to have one last fun night before graduation!

“This year I hope prom is really vibrant and energetic,” said Kamel. “I’m looking forward to prom being something I will cherish.”
