At this year’s homecoming dance on September 30, students expressed themselves through their dresses and suits. The style trends that are popular this year were anything but plain.

   Some popular dress styles included sequins, bright colors, and velvet fabrics. Many girls picked out dresses similar to those styles.

“The luxurious details currently trending are perfect for homecoming 2023 — think glitzy sequins, bright Barbiecore pinks, and silky, velvety fabrics,” writes Kelsey Stiegman, Senior style editor of Seventeen (seventeen.com).

    Colors such as bright pink and orange with glitter and sequins were the most seen at homecoming.  Margaret O’Brien, sophomore homecoming court candidate, picked out a bright pink dress for homecoming.

   “I’m wearing a pink v-neck with light pink and orange sequins, I like the color!” said O’Brien.

   Many girls picked out flashy and sparkly dresses at popular dress stores such as Princess Polly and David’s Bridal. Even though David’s Bridal sells bridal dresses, they also cater to events such as homecoming. Some girls have found their perfect homecoming dress there, for example, Shannon Gray, a freshman homecoming court candidate. 

   “It’s a red-like v-neck and it’s shorter and it’s sparkly and it’s like between a red and maroon,”

said Gray. 

   In addition to flashy dresses, the gentlemen’s suits and tuxedos were no less than exceptional. 

    “From luxurious crushed velvet suits and trendy printed blazers to classic tuxedos in rich, vibrant colors, these suave-AF styles fully fit the bill,” writes Hannah Oh, Cosmopolitan’s assistant shopping editor (seventeen.com).

    Some popular and classic suit or tuxedo colors are classic black and charcoal gray. 

    “A sharp charcoal grey number is a worthy investment,” writes Oh.

   The silhouette of the suit is the most important thing besides the color, and this sleek silhouette suits anyone.

   “This sleek tuxedo is so timeless and classic that it’ll match perfectly with any dress, no matter the color or style,” writes Oh.

   A trend in suit pants is no breaks. It shows a younger look and is popular with teens. Breaks are how long the ends of the pants are and where the fabric sits. Whether you have a high break or a mid break it changes the silhouette overall.

“The cropped hem style looks best with more modern suiting, and slim/tapered trousers,” writes Mr. Barron Cuadro, founding editor of Effortless Gent.

   No matter the clothes students chose to wear, everyone was a star on the red carpet that night.

   “Overall I had a really fun time,” said Xiomara Gonzalez, sophomore.
