SPRINGFIELD – Wednesday, October 28th,  the state of Illinois uncovered 6,110 new cases of COVID-19 and 51 new deaths rounding the total death toll to 9,620 and the total number of cases to about 389,100. As of October 21-27, Illinois was at 6.7%, and last night 2,861 people were admitted into hospitals testing positive for the novel coronavirus, 600 of which are in the Intensive Care Unit and 243 who are on ventilators.

Due to this steady rise of COVID-19 cases, 8 out of the 11 regions will be going back to their previous restrictions/lockdowns. Regions 4,5,7,8 and 10 are already under tier 1 mitigations along with Region 11, which is starting this Friday. And Region 9 will be under tier 1 mitigation starting this Saturday. Region 1, Winnebago County and the city of Rockford  has been under tier 2 mitigations since Sunday, Oct 25 because of the 14 consecutive days of the increase of the virus. This Region’s seven-day polling positivity rate is 13% as of October the 25th.
