New public library to be built downtown, Rockford City Council unanimously votes
ROCKFORD – On Tuesday night, the Rockford City Council voted unanimously to build a new downtown library to replace the previous one after various public health concerns. Currently, the books are housed in a temporary building, and only a portion of them are accessible to the general public. The previous library was torn down after chemicals soaked into the ground and proved the location unsafe for the public. Once the clean up process is over, construction will begin in the same spot as the original library in downtown Rockford.
