Author, fitness guru: Unlock your inner potential
Mr. Justin Kegley, owner of Movement Fitness and author of the motivational book Be Great Today, hosted a seminar on January 3 about how to unlock your inner potential and how to get up in the mornings when you just don’t feel like it. The seminar was offered to all Guilford students through a Zoom meeting as part of the Social Emotional Learning Committee’s “Wellness Wednesdays” series of speakers.
Mr. Kegley began the seminar stating that we all have those days when we think, “I don’t want to go to school and work today.” Mr. Kegley made several points on how to be your best even when you feel otherwise. One of the things he said was to be passionate. When you are passionate you can do things even if you hate doing them. He also said to be disciplined. Don’t make excuses, if you said you were going to wake up early today you are going to wake up early.
Another idea Mr. Kegley presented involved focusing on things you can change. You can change your attitude, process, and effort. To put in at least a little effort when you are at your worst is better than nothing at all. The most important thing he said was to not have a fixed mindset. If you fail at something don’t think, “Oh I’ll never do it.” Think, “I failed this time but I can do it again.”
