Fallen Order: A “force” to be reckoned with
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is an action-adventure game produced by Electronic Arts (EA) and developed by Respawn Entertainment. It was released on November 15th, 2019. This game is the most recent single-player Star Wars video game, and the 3rd created by EA.
The story follows Cal Kestis, a Jedi in hiding. It takes place during a dark time in the Star Wars timeline, a time when the villainous Empire is ruling over the galaxy and the heroic Jedi are being hunted down. After the events of order 66, when most Jedi were killed, Cal is trying his best to stay undercover. After an accident involving his job, Cal must save his friend using the force, which results in the Empire finding out about his past. He is helped by two unlikely partners, Cere Junda, a former Jedi, and Greez Dritus, the pilot of their ship, the Mantis. The story follows them trying to rebuild the Jedi Order in hopes to defeat the inquisitors, a deadly group of force-sensitive assassins, and the rest of the Empire.
The gameplay focuses on making the player feel like a Jedi, with powerful force attacks, and swift lightsaber combat. The gameplay fits in with the story very well because as your character grows, so do your abilities, making the player feel more powerful. The game is difficult compared to many others in its genre, which could be seen as a positive or negative. It takes many elements from already existing games such as Dark Souls and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. While it is mostly fun there are some problems. The climbing mechanics are somewhat unpolished, and the camera position can be aggravating. Overall, the gameplay is very in-depth, and fun to play.
The story is great, which adds a lot to the overall game, and the gameplay is very fun once you are successful in understanding it. Many fans are happy that EA has published a good Star Wars game, after the sub-par Star Wars: Battlefront and the disastrous launch of Star Wars: Battlefront II. In the end, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is an 8.5/10, and any longtime fan of Star Wars will be happy with it.
