Ms. Elyse Rylatt is the new AP Statistics, regular statistics and IM3 teacher at the school. She came from her previous teaching job in South Carolina and joined Guilford in October due to complications in her transfer. Although she came late, she has experienced a warm welcome to our community.
“I feel very welcomed here and I wasn’t expecting that being new,” said Ms. Rylatt.
She came late to the school year which caused a bit of a delay in the statistics curriculum.
“Not knowing anybody, never having taught the course before, I just kind of jumped right in and I was really nervous,” said Ms. Rylatt.
Another challenge that she faces is being mistaken for a student very frequently. For example, she has been stopped by security and asked if she has a pass.
Coming from South Carolina, she entered a very different vibe here. She is pleasantly surprised at the optimistic setting.
“I guess coming from experience, I’m very surprised at the positive atmosphere I’m seeing here, with all the student clubs, sports, and the community.”
Her goals for next year include: starting the school year on time, being more prepared with the Ap curriculum, and being more involved with school events.
“The students are the reason I come to school everyday because I feel respected and appreciated,” she said.
