There are many rumors going around about there being “no winter formal,” so it’s about time to address the issue and get the facts straight.
First of all, Winter Formal is a dance regularly hosted by the Student Council in order to raise money for the club. This year, this season’s dance was to be hosted by Somos Latinas and For The Culture. The dance was called Flannel Party and scheduled for February 17. This is because the clubs are in need of funding and a dance is a great opportunity for raising funds.
However, due to lack of ticket sales, the Flannel Party dance was canceled.
The tickets were $15 for Guilford students and $20 for guests. Also, some of the food was going to be free. The dance theme was rodeo.
However, many students were not happy with the change. Winter Formal is typically a well-attended event, but what happened to the student attendance numbers once the change was publicized was disappointing. For a dance to continue to go on, a certain number of students have to buy tickets, but there was so little planned attendance that the Flannel dance was canceled.
“I don’t like it,” said Joey Speilman, sophomore, “Last year people had fun and they were looking forward to it.”
This is only one perspective, though. Others are finding positive outlets and think that it was going to be just as fun, if not better.
“I was so excited to go,” said Kyle Knuth, sophomore, “It’s a bummer other people didn’t give it a shot.”
