Ms. Evelyen Churchville is starting her first year here at Guilford as a teacher, but she isn’t a new face. After subbing at Kennedy middle school for three years, Ms. Churchville moved to Guilford as building sub. Guilford worked out with a seamless transition from building sub to Business and Tech and College and Career Readiness teacher. Prior to teaching, Churchville had retired from the position of program coordinator, school of nurse anesthesia Crozer Chester Medical Center at Villanova University in Pennsylvania.
Ms. Churchville has been very keen on her new position and caring for her students.
“As a new educator I’m really getting the feel of what high school is all about, the difference of what subbing and teaching really is; it’s definitely much more challenging,” said Ms. Churchville. “I have so much appreciation for what seasoned teachers do, it’s amazing. If it wasn’t for my collages I’d be totally lost in this environment.”
Ms. Churchville loves her grandchildren, interacting with her church, and traveling.
“Middle school and high school are totally different,” said Ms. Churchville. “It’s a big change from working in a middle school moving to a high school, primarily the maturity level of students. They’re older.”
Even with challenges as a new teacher, Ms. Churchville knows her work is part of the future of these kids’ lives.
“I know I’m making a positive impact on my students,” said Ms. Churchville.
