Boredom overtakes us all. The unclean dishes, the messy room, fourteen missing assignments: Tasks. There are so many tasks that need to be done. What do you choose to do first? Focusing on completing all of those assignments leaves us feeling drained and overwhelmed. Rather than worrying about completing all of those tasks, don’t. Instead, grab your snacks, kick back, and watch a great show. Not sure what to watch? Here are a few recommendations from your fellow Viking students.
Interestingly, several students preferred to remain anonymous because they wished to not be judged on the shows they watch. On the other hand, some students are happy to share opinions in order to express themselves.
The first TV show is recommended by a sophomore business academy student who requested to stay anonymous. Ginny and Georgia. “It’s a warm-hearted show that is funny and tells a deep story. It has all the emotions you want. it’ll make you angry, It will make you cry, it will make you laugh, and it will overall give you a sense of home due to how relatable it is. It helps teens feel less alone in their struggles. Ultimately, it helps teens self-reflect and try to improve themselves.” (This show is a comedy-drama and can be watched on Netflix. It is a good show to binge-watch. It has 2 seasons both having ten episodes lasting around an hour each and is a good topic to talk about with friends. Season 3 is expected to be released in late 2024 or early 2025)
The second TV show is recommended by another anonymous sophomore student. “The Good Doctor is a show that evokes many emotions out of its audience. It makes you feel really protective of the main character Shawn Murphy. It touches on many sensitive topics like autism, sexuality, and abuse along with much more. This is a show that puts you on the edge of your seat. If you are looking for a show that makes you laugh and cry, this is it.” (The Good Doctor is a medical drama with some heartwrenching moments. It can be watched on Hulu. It has 6 seasons with an average of 19.3 episodes per season. Season 7 is supposed to be released February 20, 2024)
The third TV show was recommended by Aaliyah Lee, sophomore. “Young Sheldon is a very fun show to watch. It’s so interesting and funny. At first, I saw it on YouTube shorts and TikTok, then decided I wanted to watch it. It’s a feel-good show with many underlying themes. It makes you think about life as a whole. Sheldon’s smart nature, Georgie’s dumb nature, and Missy’s invisible nature. It makes you connect to the characters. You feel bad that the parents only care about Sheldon and not the other kids. The show gets really sad at times and makes you want to sob uncontrollably and there are other times when you just laugh and feel at home.” (Young Sheldon is a sitcom with 7 seasons and an average of 20.1 episodes per season.)
This last one is recommended by me. “D.P. is amazing but if you are looking to laugh and feel good this is not the show. It touches on many sensitive topics like bullying, sexual assault, and suicide. This show is a Korean Drama that is based off of the mandatory military service. This show is not for the weak-hearted it will make you cry uncontrollably wondering if the right choice was actually made or even worth it. If you are looking for a distraction this show is for you. please watch at your own discretion. (D.P is a binge-worthy show that has 2 seasons with 6 episodes in each season lasting around 45-55 min. Some well-known Korean actors play in the drama)- If you watch it dubbed instead of subtitles you can jump off a cliff.
