Mr. John Clark is a hospitality teacher in the service academy this year. This is not his first experience teaching; he has had experiences subbing many other district school and jobs in other district schools.
“I taught from 2008 to 2015 in many different roles. I was a band teacher at Jefferson,” said Mr. Clark. “I have also taught a lot of math classes.”
Mr. Clark has not always been a teacher. He has had many other career choices.
“I´m currently an operations manager at Marys Market, and I have also been a carpenter and piano teacher,” said Mr. Clark.
Mr. Clark’s transition to Guilford so far has been positive. He likes all the support and best interest for the students the administration has shown. Although he has had some challenges with the students while working with technology.
“Last time I taught in 2015 they didn’t have Google Classrooms or all the technology that has been used in the last few years,” said Mr. Clark. “So I’m great with technology, but I don’t know how the students have used it, so I´m trying to figure out their learning language with the technology they use today.”
Working two jobs, Mr. Clark doesn´t have time to do clubs, but he has the students’ best interest while he has them in class. He wants to make different hospitality classes for his students in the next years. He would also like students to have more hands-on experiences for his classes.
“I think I have affected student life by showing up everyday but one because I had training, because you can’t make a difference if you aren´t here,” said Mr. Clark.
Mr. Clark has many interests outside of his job here at Guilford. He likes carpentry, woodworking, and music.
“Some advice: if you know how to cook you´ll always have friends,” said Mr. Clark.
