Student showing support for Raehaan!

It may shock some students to know that student council elections are happening, and they’re just as important as they were in your favorite teen movies. The Google Form to vote for the next members of your student council will be released to students via email, and has been sent out!

“I believe that student council elections are still relevant because, with a stable team, we can work together in presenting new ideas,” said Raehann Razick, a junior who is running for student council president.

Student council elections have been a part of Guilford’s history for a very long time. They are a celebrated tradition that most students look forward to. One thing that is important in every candidate’s campaign is advertising. All of the candidates have been advertising and making sure they get the word out.

Another thing that lots of students have been thinking about is what kind of person should be on the student council. What values should they have?

“People who are helping out and have a positive attitude,” said Sarah Legoo, a freshman. “They should help other kids out and have a good mindset.”

The elections will take place after spring break, and most of the candidates feel prepared going into it.

“I feel extremely confident because I am well prepared and I have started promoting before anyone else,” said Razick. “I also have a lot of students that are by my side.”

The candidates have been campaigning hard, with signs up all around the school, Instagram accounts for their campaigns, and even a costume that students can wear to get the word out.

“I have spread the word about my campaign through flyers, posters, and goody bags,” said Razick. “I also put together an ambassador team to help with promoting me and my campaign.”

Most students are excited to vote, but some of them haven’t heard a lot about it, and aren’t sure who to vote for.

“Honestly, they don’t tell us much about student council in school,” said Micaiah Pelley, a sophomore. “I didn’t even know there was a student council, and I didn’t know student council elections were going on. I don’t know what student council really does. All I know is that they help with the dances.”

Despite this, all of the candidates have ideas for what they would do with their term on the student council.

“If I were to be elected, one thing that I would change about Guilford is the environment,” said Razick. “I feel like we need a more safe and friendly environment. With planning specific activities that will bring students together and address certain topics, I believe that with a great team it will be doable.”
