Mrs. Courtney Kubacki: Band & Choir

Ms. Courtney Kubacki is the new band and choir teacher. This is her 3rd year teaching overall. She spent two years teaching elementary music at Meehan Elementary School in Belvidere. She  loved her  time there, but Ms.Kubacki definitely loves  teaching high school more.

“Before graduating college, I was a lifeguard for over 7 years,” said Mrs. Kubacki. “Once I graduated in 2020, I got my first teaching job right away.”

Mrs. Kubacki decided to teach at Guiford because she is a a Guilford alum from the Class of 2014. She does her best to make school a great experience for her students.

“School usually isn’t fun for me,” said Isaiah Alanis, junior. “Mrs. Kubacki makes it a little bit better and worth coming.”

The band played at their first football game of the season in September, and it was an exhilarating experience for everyone. In addition to band and choir, Mrs. Kubacki teaches advanced pian and keyboarding.

“Mrs. Kubacki has helped me learn to love the piano this year,” said Lilly Burcham, sophomore.

Although the school day ends at 3:20, Mrs. Kubacki’s day does not end there.

“We have after school jazz band twice a week and it is a group that I look forward to each week,” she stated.

Challenges Mrs. Kubacki has faced include just learning where everything is and certain protocols for everything in a new building in a new district. Coming from an elementary school, Ms.Kubacki  schedule is very different. Additionally, a surprise early in the school year was the heat.

“How hot the office in the band room gets! Thank goodness for fans,” she stated.

Ms. Kubacki hopes to get more students to join band next year. When not teaching, she enjoys doing crafts with her friends and playing with her dog, Scooby.
