Mr. Christian Marigomen: Band
This is Mr. Christian Marigomen’s first official teaching position. He graduated with a Bachelors of Music in Music Education last year from Western Illinois University.
“I think my most positive experience at Guilford High School was the Holiday Concert with Band, Choir, and Orchestra,” said Mr. Marigomen. “It was such a big project that we had to put together and I think it all went smoothly and everyone did a mighty fine job.”
Mr. Marigomen’s greatest challenge at Guilford is teaching guitar. He’s not the greatest guitarist, so he must put in a lot of work on his own time to be able to teach the class well.
“I decided to take the position at Guilford because the choir program is kind of at a resetting point,” he stated. “Although I know it is going to be a lot of work, the idea of building the program back up from square one and shaping it into what I want it to be was the most appealing thing to me about this job. Plus, the administration and staff are all great and welcoming here.”
What surprised Mr. Marigomen most about Guilford is the sense of community here. Between all the staff and students, he explained that he feels a real sense of caring and belonging.
“My personal goals for next semester is to be more efficient as an educator and find that work/life balance,” he stated.
Mr. Marigomen notes that all students are welcome to participate in the music program.
“I’ve affected student life at Guilford by giving my students a place where they can feel safe and comfortable expressing themselves in any way they like. It could be through music, movement, singing, etc. And this opportunity is not just for my students. We have an after school a cappella group that is open for all students at GHS!”
