Mr. Dane Johnson: English
Mr. Dane Johson is a new English teacher at GHS who also teaches Yearbook and Introduction to Publications classes. This is Mr. Johnson’s first year as a fully certified teacher. He was a permanent substitute and building substitute at Flinn Middle School for a little over half a year, but then lost his job when COVID hit.
“Most of my experience has been in the restaurant industry, but I’ve worn many different hats,” said Mr. Johnson. “I briefly worked in sales, and I’ve done a handful of freelance writing and editing jobs for small marketing firms.”
Mr. Johnson has experienced several positive experiences since he has been at Guilford.
“I’m obviously starting my career in education at an interesting time to say the least,” he stated. “Everyone is still returning to so-called “normalcy” after the COVID pandemic, which impacted not just student learning but my own education as well. That said, I’ve been really impressed with the positive attitudes of so many of my students and colleagues; we have a lot of ground to recover after the last few years, but most of us show up every day trying to do just a little better than we did yesterday. I think most people here want to see themselves and each other succeed.”
Mr. Johnson is an avid consumer and historian of all sorts of media, particularly music.
I collect (too many) vinyl records, attend (too few) concerts, and play guitar (poorly). Besides music, I enjoy film, television, and literature, and I follow news and current events as much as I can without losing my mind. I also play video games when I find the time; mostly classics from my younger days, but I dabble in new releases on occasion.
Mr. Johnson also enjoys traveling.
“Also, I’m a total foodie. When I travel, most of my focus is on finding cool places to eat; I’m yet to find a dish I don’t like.”
