Brothers – Boruto Episode 201 “Empty Tears”
“Empty Tears” was the title of this week’s episode of the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime, and for good reason. Coming right off the tail-end of last week’s episode, we get the adaptation of a portion of Chapter 35, which was called “Up to You.”
We start off where we last left off, with Kurama halting Kawaki right as the latter was about to leave the room he was in. The two had a heart-to-heart conversation, Kurama shedding light on the fact that Kawaki and Naruto have a lot in common and are pretty similar, going on to speak about the many hardships and tribulations Naruto had to go through being the Jinchuriki for him. This story made Kawaki shed a single tear.
“Naturally, that all depends on you. But it doesn’t seem impossible. Because from the looks of it, you haven’t completely dried up, yet.”
– Kurama
Later on, the training continued with Boruto and Naruto foreseeing Kawaki’s progression as a ninja. Kawaki displayed his impatience, complaining that chakra control and tree-climbing was easy, wanting to skip straight to learning the Shadow Doppelganger technique. Naruto told him that what he was doing was something he had much trouble with as an adolescent, but Boruto teased him, saying how it was a quite simple concept for him to grasp as well. Sarada and Mitsuki watched on too, Sarada showing visible jealousy that Kawaki was getting special hands-on treatment from the Seventh Hokage.
Moving along, Naruto, Sarada, Mitsuki, Boruto, and Kawaki strolled through the village. After learning that Sasuke was training Sarada, Boruto asked her to ask Sasuke to train him when he got back from his mission. Mitsuki agreed to join him, but Kawaki declined. Before they left, however, Kawaki told Boruto that they’ll need to become a lot stronger in order for them to defeat Jigen, going on to say that he’s the one who knows everything about Karma. Boruto agreed, placing his fist on Kawaki’s chest and saying:
“Besides, this isn’t just about the Karma for me, anymore. At this point, you’re too important to me to leave you be. Isn’t that right, Brother?”
Additionally, Sarada continued her Chidori training, though she remarked about hers not being near as powerful as her father’s. Moreover, Shikamaru and Sai spoke on one of the pieces of intel Konohamaru brought back with him from his mission to investigate the airship on the outskirts of the Land of Fire. It had coordinates that could only be reached via Space-Time Ninjutsu. Sai took the initiative to send Sasuke Uchiha out on that mission.
The episode closed out with Sasuke using his Rinnegan-based Space-Time Ninjutsu to enter an unworldly dimension with many carved patterning surrounding him, the patterns being in the shape of horns. While this took place, Boro made a grand entrance in front of many people, further claiming his plans for the Infinite Tsukuyomi.
“The day you will be led by Otsutsuki will eventually come!”
– Boro
The next episode, Episode 201, drops Sunday, May 30 titled “The Cult.”
