Previously illegal immigrants may be gaining citizenship
WASHINGTON – Soon to be President Joe Biden plans to introduce an immigration bill that grants an 8-year path to citizenship. This will extend to 11 million people living in the U.S. without legal status. It would be one of the fastest ways to gain legal status and it doesn’t include a usual trade-off of increasing border security. Set to be enacted on wednesday, the same day Biden comes into office. This next quote is directly from the original article about the requirements, “of those living in the U.S. as of Jan. 1, 2021, without legal status would have a five-year path to temporary legal status, or a green card, if they pass background checks, pay taxes and fulfill other basic requirements. From there, it’s a three-year path to naturalization, if they decide to pursue citizenship.”
