Album Review: Post Malone’s ‘Hollywood’s Bleeding’

   Post Malone’s third album, Hollywood’s Bleeding is a testament to everything that makes him both an amazing, yet disappointing artist. Combining hip-hop, trap, and contemporary R&B melodies, Posty delivers a mixed bag of an album, with a lack of vision. This album represents everything Post is great at, from rich and dark instrumentals to catchy melodies; but also lacks in the fact that nearly half of these tracks seem unfinished or lazy on his part. 

   The track “Internet” is the best example of wasted potential on this album as it was shortened down to only two minutes with only one repetition of an absolutely perfect chorus. However, the album shines especially in tracks like “Circles.” “Goodbyes,” and “Myself.” Posty delivers flawless refrains in these tracks, tackling a tiresome, dying relationship, breakup, and the resolution he finds within himself (this could allude to his breakup back in 2018 with his ex-girlfriend Ashley Diaz). Although I love this album, the track “I’m Gonna Be” sounds immature and annoying compared to nearly every other track the artist has put out. Although featuring a great acoustic/bass beat, the vocals give a cheeky, unpleasant feeling to the track, almost making it unlistenable. “Wow” is easily one of the best songs on this album, providing a strong SoundCloud/trap atmosphere. Posty manages to surprisingly kill it over this style and beat, and hopefully will continue with this trend in the future.

   Overall, I enjoyed the album and I will stand by my judgement that about half of the tracks are flawless, while the other half are either lazy or simply a disappointment. Shoving in aged singles such as “Sunflower” to increase the amount of tracks for more revenue also didn’t help much, along with terrible features from Lil Baby, Halsey, and SZA. I believe that if Post Malone took more time on these tracks, developing a more straightforward vision lyrically, we could have seen one of the best albums of the decade.
