DO YOU NEED A DATE TO PROM?

NO!

It’s prom season, which means it’s time to start busting out the most extravagant promposals you can think of. Students hoping to attend prom have become fixated on one thing: a date. We’ve all seen it in movies–the “nerdy” girl or boy refuses to attend their final high school dance all because the “popular” girl or boy did not ask them personally to go. There’s no need to create such a big fuss over a night that’s supposed to be about you.

Let’s face it: stereotypically, boys know little about the importance of prom attire. Corsages are traditionally supposed to match the color of your dress. What else matches the dress? Your date’s outfit. The problem in most cases is that some boys hate the idea behind wearing a feminine color and sometimes refuse to match their date. Now, if you were to go alone, this would not be a problem because you would be wearing a color that you would want. Prom pictures would be so much more fun to take if you were happy with what you were wearing. You wouldn’t want to be sitting down with your grandchildren in the future, explaining to them why you were wearing a camouflage printed ball gown. Go with the obvious choice and be happy with what you wear.

Whether you’re going as friends or as a couple, “after prom pressure” is something no one wants. Wisconsin Dells has become a trademark spot for Rockford prom attendees. If your date plans on going to the Dells, it’s a no brainer that you must succumb to going as well. Hey, that’s after prom pressure for you. Teenagers alone in a hotel room a whole state away is probably not the best idea. In other cases, students have strict parents who won’t allow their special angel to travel a few hours away with their friends for the weekend. If you decide to ditch the whole date ordeal, you won’t have this problem.

Without a date, you have more time to dance and hang out with your friends. It’s senior year! Why waste your time placing all of your attention on just one person when you can brighten up everyone else’s night solely with your presence? Think of how many prom selfies you’ll be taking, because who doesn’t love being the center of attention? Not having a date is not the end of the world.
