From October 23rd to October 27th, Guilford High School will be participating in Red Ribbon Week, the nation’s biggest drug prevention campaign. This year’s theme will be: “Your Future is Key, so Stay Drug Free!”

Red Ribbon Week was created in memory of Enrique “Kiki” Camarena. Camarena was an agent of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration who was killed on the job. The campaign was created so that what he believed in will live on.

The week will include several activities for students and staff to participate in. Lunch time activities that will be held are: “Hand in Hand We Stand” on Monday, where students trace their hands on a banner; “I Fly Drug Free” on Tuesday, a paper airplane throwing contest; “Born to Be Drug Free” on Wednesday, where students will guess what baby photos belong to what teacher; “Dare to be Drug Free” on Thursday, DARE officers will allow students to try on “drunk” goggles; and “Take a Spin Without Drugs” on Friday, a hula hoop contest. These activities will all be held in the cafeteria and commons area on each of their respective days.

Students will also be able to wear different outfits each day of the week relating to a different theme, similar to Homecoming week. Wear red on Monday, cowboy attire on Tuesday, sports jerseys on Wednesday, superhero costumes on Thursday, and tie dye shirts on Friday. Students are all encouraged to participate in order to support drug prevention.
