Spider-Man: Homecoming review
October 3, 2017
For over a decade, Spider-Man has seen life on the big screen in a variety of different forms. Beginning with the original Spider-Man in 2002, there has since been five other films starring the character. The most recent of these films, Spider-Man: Homecoming, marked his first solo outing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This was made possible because of a deal that was made between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures which allowed them to co-produce the film. But was this deal worth it in the end? I think so, because this film is one of Marvel’s best in recent years.
The film, which takes place after the events of Captain America: Civil War, stars Tom Holland in the titular role, who is still trying to get adjusted to his new found superpowers. He also has to deal with issues in his high school social life and a new villain called the Vulture. This villain, played by Michael Keaton, is one of the best villains in the MCU. This is largely due to Keaton’s performance and chemistry with Holland, who also gives a great performance in the role of Spider-man and his alter ego of Peter Parker. The actors who play Parker’s classmates also give great performances, especially Jacob Batalon as his best friend Ned Leeds.
Many other things also make the film stand out, such as its soundtrack, special effects, story, and the humor; the latter being one of its biggest strengths. The film does suffer from some cliché plot elements, but Spider-Man: Homecoming is still one of the best superhero films in the past few years.
